Syrah was born and raised on the East Coast. She is a 2022 Periplus Fellow, a 2022 Tin House summer workshop scholar, and earned her MFA in Prose at the University of Michigan’s Helen Zell Writers Program. While there, her writing won multiple Hopwood Awards. Syrah’s lived in the US, Chile, and Spain. As a child, she wanted to grow up to be a Sailor Scout.

Syrah is working on her first two novels.
